Campaign
Dear Sundar,
We, the undersigned Google workers from offices across the US and Canada, are concerned about instability at Google that impacts our ability to do high quality, impactful work.
Ongoing rounds of layoffs make us feel insecure about our jobs. The company is clearly in a strong financial position, making the loss of so many valuable colleagues without explanation hurt even more. Additionally GRAD, Google’s performance review system, encourages a particular distribution of ratings over employees rather than considering our individual merit. This erodes our confidence that we will be recognized for high quality and impactful work.
We are requesting the following changes to company policy:
We understand that difficult decisions are sometimes necessary for the good of the business, but we believe that they can be made in a way that is more equitable for workers.
We celebrate Google’s historic culture of ownership of solutions by workers, and hope that you will engage with us in the spirit of making Google a better place to work for everyone. We are requesting that you acknowledge receipt of this letter and respond to our demands within two weeks of its delivery.
Sincerely,
<the undersigned>
